NSPCC – Keeping Children Safe in Cheshire
For a number of years the NSPCC has been the beneficiary of any money raised at our event. All monies raised is given to support their services for children and young people in Cheshire. Sponsorship of this prestigious and worthy event also supports projects to help children and young people and their families and raises awareness of child protection issues in Cheshire and Wirral.
Together we can improve the lives of children in Cheshire. Together we can give every child a safe childhood.
Congratulations to the Cheshire Woman Award on your 40th year!
I would like to give my personal thanks to members of the Cheshire Woman Award committee who work tirelessly throughout the year planning the awards, seeking sponsorship, liaising with, and searching for wonderful nominees and making the event so special.
I would particularly like to thank the Chair Sylvia Cheater for all her amazing work over the last 40 years on the awards. It is only with Sylvia’s passion and determination that the awards have continued over the years.
Thank you to her and to all the previous members who have worked so hard.
Kindest Regards, Deborah Sefton – Supporter Fundraising Manager North-West

The NSPCC is the UK’s leading children’s charity. We have been looking out for children for over 140 years, and we could not do it without you.
Here are some of the ways in which we are keeping children safe in Cheshire
Give children a voice through our Childline service – 0800 11 11
Based on the population of Cheshire, we can estimate that around 3,000 counselling sessions were delivered to children living in Cheshire in 2023/24. This wouldn’t be possible without our volunteer counsellors.
Safeguard children in schools
In 2023/24, 29,508 children in 123 schools took part in our Speak out Stay safe programme in Cheshire.
Speak Out Stay Safe
Speak Out Stay Safe helps children understand abuse in all its forms and how to recognise signs of abuse, that abuse is never a child’s fault and that they have the right to be safe and where to get help and the sources of help available to them, including our Childline service
Talk Relationships
Talk Relationships supports secondary schools to confidently deliver inclusive sex and relationships education. The service aims to foster a whole-school approach of promoting healthy relationships and recognising, responding to, and preventing abuse.
Taking action to protect children
In 2023/24, the NSPCC Helpline (0808 800 5000 and [email protected]) responded to over 75,600 contacts from people with concerns about a child’s welfare. 635 referrals were made from the helpline to local agencies in Cheshire, such as the police and children’s services.
Local campaigns
In 2023/24, we engaged with around 1,400 professionals, adults, and children in North-West. Every community is different, so we work in partnerships to devise and deliver local safeguarding campaigns which respond to local needs on topics such as youth led bullying campaigns and neglect.
Alice – “I told my family what had happened to me when I was a teenager. It took me 10 years to tell anyone what I’d been through!”
Annie – “The support I received helped me to feel like a worthwhile person. The NSPCC made me feel as if I was believed and they believed me. Trust was a big thing for me!”
Leila – “The men were a lot older than me. They didn’t blink an eye when I said I was 13!”
